Toyota Corolla Cross Launched In Thailand, Will it roll-out In Indian Market Too?

Toyota has launched the crossover derivative of its most popular Corolla car. The cross version of Corolla has been launched in Thailand. The car will be deriving its underpinnings from the Toyota’s Corolla and CH-R, which means that the Corolla Cross will be based on the same TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform. It is also worth noting that the company claims the car is being developed under the concept of ‘Compact yet comfortable’.

Toyota Corolla Cross: About the Car

As the car carries a Corolla badging, it can be expected to be a reliable partner, Corolla has literally driven the Toyota brand over the years, so it certainly will work in the compact SUV’s favour. As far as slotting is concerned, it can be positioned slightly below the Toyota C-HR and can be perceived as the more affordable Toyota alternative to coupe shaped C-HR.

Exteriors

The Corolla inspired SUV is 4460 mm long, 1825 mm wide and 1620 mm tall. Since it shares the same body underpinnings with C-HR, they both have the same wheelbase (2640 mm). From the outside, the car looks an out-and-out Toyota. Corolla Cross comes across as a visually rugged vehicle straightaway with design elements like gigantic black grille, sharp headlights, LED DRLs, pronounced wheel arches all culminating into the bulky SUV appeal. The massive 18.0 inches alloys also go well with SUVish appeal.

Interiors

On the inside, Cabin features a monochrome treatment with few contrasting inclusions here and there. The car seems to be sharing a lot of similarities on the inside with the Suzuki ACross SUV, as the Toyota Cross-over derives a lot of panel from its Suzuki counterpart.

The car comes packed with a number of features boasting of likes of 8 way adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control, multi-function steering wheel with Audio and MID controls, 7 inch MID and 9-inch smart infotainment system that gets Apple CarPlay connectivity.

Engine Options

The compact SUV will get a couple of engine options- a 1.8L 2ZR-FBE petrol unit that churns out a power output of 140 PS and torque output of 175 Nm, this particular unit comes mated to a CVT gearbox

The Corolla based crossover will also get a petrol-hybrid motor with a 98 PS power-producing petrol engine working in conjunction with a 72 PS Electric motor, which will come mated with Toyota’s e-CVT gearbox.
