This Could Be Toyota’s Upcoming C-segment MPV – Kia Carens Rival

  • It could be an Indian derivate of the Toyota Veloz / Avanza.
  • Likely to be based on Toyota’s front-wheel-drive DNGA modular platform.
  • Launch expected in 2023.

Back in 2019, Toyota disclosed that they are working on a new compact MPV for the Indian market (codenamed: B560) that will be positioned below the Innova Crysta in the brand’s lineup. And now, the C-segment people mover has been spotted testing for the first time.

While the test mule was heavily camouflaged, we can still spot its split taillamp setup, round wheel arches, sharper character and rising window lines, racked D-pillar, and triangular rear quarter window. All these elements suggest that it will be an Indian derivate of the new Toyota Veloz/Avanza sold in the global markets that underpin Toyota’s front-wheel-drive Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) modular platform. Dimensionally, the Toyota Veloz is 4,475mm long (260mm shorter than Innova Crysta) and has a wheelbase of 2,750mm (identical to Innova).

Note: The Toyota Veloz carries some cosmetic distinction and features differences from its sister model.

While it is not official, Maruti could also add this MPV to its fleet, of course with cross badging and a slightly tweaked design. We hope Toyota will offer a mild/strong hybrid powertrain option with this new MPV.

Expect Toyota to launch this people mover sometime in 2023 to take on the likes of Kia Carens, Maruti Suzuki XL6, and Mahindra Marazzo.
