The More Powerful Tata Tigor EV Is Finally Here

Tata's entry-level electric vehicle, the Tigor EV, has finally debuted in a facelifted avatar that is more powerful and feature-rich than before. Bookings for the electrified sedan are now open at select dealerships for a token amount of Rs 21,000. Its prices will be revealed at its launch on August 31, 2021.

2021 Tata Tigor EV – What's New?

The most biggest update on the 2021 Tata Tigor EV facelift is concentrated on the powertrain. To be precise, the Tigor EV will now use Tata’s renowned Ziptron powertrain, which made its debut last year with the Nexon EV.

Powering the new Tigor EV is a permanent magnet synchronous motor that generates a maximum power output of 55kW (75PS) and 170Nm of peak torque, that's 45PS/75Nm less than the Nexon EV and 41PS & 105Nm higher than the recently launched Xpres-T.

Packed with a 26 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the brand is providing an 8-year / 1,60,000 kilometers of warranty (whichever occurs earlier) on the battery and motor. While the brand hasn't revealed its drive range and top speed, it is claimed to does 0 to 60 kmph in 5.7 seconds. It is expected to offer a range between 250km to 300km.

The new Tata Tigor EV also adopts the widely-accepted CCS2 charging standard and supports fast charging as well. The DC fast charging takes about an hour to charge the sedan up to 80 per cent and an AC charger takes around 8.5 hours for the same.

Speaking of design, it is in line with the ICE-powered Tigor facelift, save for the same EV-specific design elements like closed-off grille, redesigned wheels, and a few blue inserts to differentiate it from the standard model.

As for features, the 2021 Tata Tigor EV gets projector headlamps with LED DRLs, a 7.0-inch Harman touchscreen infotainment system with four speakers and four tweeters, 30+ iRA connected car techs, height-adjustable driver's seat, power-folding ORVMs, keyless entry push-button start, automatic climate control, City & Sport drive modes, portable charging cable, puncture repair kit, etc.

Safety kit, on the other hand, includes dual airbags, ABS with EBD, corner stability control, hill ascent & descent assist, high-speed alerts, impact-resistant battery pack casing, IP67 rated battery pack, seat belt reminder, and more.

Expected Price and Rivals

We are expecting Tata to price the new Tigor EV between Rs 9.5 lakh to Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom). As of now, it has no direct competitor in the Indian market.
