Tesla Model 3 Rivaling BYD Seal Is On Display At Auto Expo 2023

  • It will be positioned above the Atto 3 electric SUV in the brand’s current product line-up.
  • Launch expected around the festive season.
  • BYD’s first car to feature CTB technology.

Leading EV maker BYD has confirmed its next electric offering for the Indian market will be the Seal sedan that has been showcased at the Auto Expo 2023. It is expected to hit our shores around the festive season this year. Internationally, it goes up against the likes of the Tesla Model 3.

Sharing its underpinnings with the Atto 3 electric SUV, the Seal is the only BYD offering that features Cell-To-Body (CTB) technology that makes the battery pack a structural part of the car’s body frame, thus reducing the overall weight of the car by a significant margin.

Globally, the BYD Seal is available with two sets of batteries: 61.44 kWh and 82.56 kWh. It comes in both rear-wheel drive (single motor) and all-wheel drive (dual-motor) configurations, delivering a maximum power out of 312PS (standard range variant offers 201PS) and 523PS, respectively. The range-topping AWD model can do the 0-100 kmph sprint in just 3.8 seconds. Depending on the variant, it can offer a range of up to 700 kilometres.

Key highlights include a rotating 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, and radar-based ADAS active safety features like adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, emergency auto braking and more.

Expect BYD to price the Seal from around Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. Once launched, it will lock horns with the BMW i4.
