Tata Safari Revealed In Official Images

2021 Safari, the upcoming flagship car from Tata Motors, has been revealed by official images. Essentially, it’s a three-row version of the Harrier SUV. These images reveal how the production version of the third-generation Safari will look like, and affirms the designing bits & features from earlier sightings as well.

2021 Tata Safari – Design 

The all-new Tata Safari preserves most of the elements from its pre-production model- Gravitas, which was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. Based on the Harrier, it gets a few cosmetic upgrades so that it can have its own individual identity.

Upfront, it features a chrome-finished tri-arrow grille, chrome garnished headlamp housing, and a silver skid plate to differentiate itself from the Harrier.

From the side, it looks identical to Harrier till the C-pillar. Beyond this point, it has an entirely different design. It features a large rear quarter glass, a stepped roof to accommodate the three-row, roof rails with SAFARI embossing, and a new & more upright tailgate with redesigned taillamps. It also gets a new dark blue exterior color, in addition to the shade options, it borrowed from the Harrier. 

In terms of dimensions, the Safari will be 63mm longer and 80mm taller than the Harrier.

The interior images are yet to be revealed, but it will get the Oyster White-Black interior theme with ash-wood inserts as seen on the Gravitas. On the other hand, the layout of the interior will be similar to the Harrier. It is likely to come in both 6- and 7-seater options.

As far as the features are concerned, the 2021 Tata Safari is likely to retain all the features of the Harrier SUV along with some new additions to list in the form of an electronic parking brake, iRA connected car technology with Hinglish commands compatibility, wireless charging, ventilated seats, front parking sensors, and a powered tailgate.

Powertrain

Under the hood, the Safari will borrow Harrier's 2.0-litre Kryotec turbo-diesel engine as well as its 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission options. In Harrier, this engine generates 170PS of maximum power and 350Nm of peak torque. Tata has announced that like the previous version of Safari, the new-gen model will also be capable of housing an AWD (all-wheel-drive) system, but it will not be offered at launch but likely be introduced later if there will be a demand for it. 

Bookings, Expected Launch & Pricing 

Unofficial pre-launch bookings of the new Tata Safari are underway at selected dealerships for a token amount of Rs 51,000. Official bookings are expected to commence soon, while the launch is expected to take place by the end of January 2021.

The 2021 Tata Safari is likely to have a starting price of around Rs 15 lakh. It will take on the other 7-seater offering like the MG Hector Plus, Mahindra XUV500, and the upcoming three-row version of Hyundai Creta.
