Tata Motors is all set to unveil the Punch micro-SUV on October 4. However, its dimensions and engine specifications have already been leaked ahead of its official debut. So here we have put these numbers against its direct rivals – – Mahindra KUV100 NXT and Maruti Suzuki Ignis

  • As seen above, the Tata Punch is the largest & widest car here and has the highest ground clearance among all, which will help it take on the unevenness of the road more prominently. Additionally, the inclusion of multiple driving and terrain response modes will make it more capable.
  • Its wheelbase is also longer than both of its rivals, which will result in better cabin space. 

Tata Punch Vs Rivals – Engine Specifications

The Tata Punch is likely to come with Altroz's 1.2-litre petrol engine, paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). It could also get a 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol and an all-electric powertrain at a later stage.

All these urban micro-SUVs come with petrol mills of the same displacement and thus deliver almost the same output. However, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis has an additional cylinder which results in a more streamlined movement of the crankshaft, making the engine operation relatively much smoother as compared to the 3-cylinder unit.

We reckon that the Tata Punch will be priced between Rs 5.5 lakh and Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). At present, the Maruti Ignis is the most affordable car in this segment.
