Tata Nexon EV Gets Dearer By Rs 15,000

India's most popular electric car, the Tata Nexon EV has become dearer by up to Rs 15,000 on its first anniversary today. Earlier, the brand has also hiked the prices of its ICE offerings. Here’s a look at the revised variant-wise prices of Nexon EV sub-compact SUV: –

As the above table indicates, all the trims of Nexon Electric, apart from the base-spec XM, are now costlier by Rs 15,000. That said, it is still India's most affordable long-range EV with a claimed drive range of over 300km. For the people not in know, Nexon EV's mid-spec XZ+ variant is also available on a subscription basis in selected cities across the country. 

With a 64% market share in the EV segment, the Tata Nexon EV is currently India's best-selling passenger electric car. It has crossed the 2,500-unit sales marks at the end of December 2020, and now the EV is quite close to its 3,000-unit sales milestone.

The electrified Tata Nexon draws its power from a 30.2kWh battery pack which is coupled to a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor rated at 129PS/245Nm. It also supports DC fast charging and can be juiced up from 0-80% in just 60 minutes. The brand also offers a 3.3kW AC home fast charger with the EV which takes up to 8 hours for a full charge.

The Nexon EV comes with two drive modes- Drive and Sport. In Sport mode, it is claimed to accelerate from 0 – 100 kmph in just 9.9 seconds, whereas the 0 to 60 kmph sprint can be done in less than 4 seconds. The top speed is limited to 120kmph.

As of now, the Nexon EV doesn’t have any direct competitor in the Indian market. However, it will soon face competition with the upcoming Mahindra XUV300 Electric. Apart from the Nexon EV, the other long range electric vehicles available in the Indian market includes MG ZS EV (Rs 20.88 lakh to Rs 23.58 lakh), Hyundai Kona Electric (Rs 23.75 lakh to Rs 23.94 lakh), and the Mercedes-Benz EQC (Rs 1.04 crore).
