Tata Motors has rolled out the 1000th unit of Nexon EV from its Pune production plant. It has been only six months since Nexon was launched and in such a short time, achieving these sales figures and that too in the Indian market where the electric segment is in its initial stages, is a milestone in itself. It is also to be noted that a nationwide lockdown was also implemented within these six months.
With this achievement, the Nexon EV has also become the best-selling electric car in India with over 62% share of the market as of Q1 FY21. There are four other electric cars on sale in India, which includes Tata Tigor EV, Hyundai Kona Electric, Mahindra E Verito, and MG ZS EV.
Tata Nexon EV: Specifications
Tata Nexon EV has a similar design to its IC-engine version. However, to differentiate between them Tata has done some blue color highlights on its exterior and interior.
The Nexon EV is a front-wheel-drive (FWD) sub-4meter SUV that uses Tata’s Ziptron EV powertrain technology. It features a lithium-ion battery of 30.2kWh capacity which power a permanent-magnet AC motor that churns out a max power output of 129PS and a peak torque output of 245Nm.
With Nexon EV, Tata claims a range of 312km in a single charge. However, in the real world, the range figures could be different depending upon the driving style, road condition, braking frequency, and load on the car.
Acceleration and Top Speed
This can pick 0 to 100kmph speed in just 9.9 seconds. the top speed is limited to 120kmph. The SUV will do over 312km on a full charge as per the ARAI, however, a range of around 240km can be expected in the real world.
Tata Nexon EV can be charged from 0-80% in just 1 hour with the help of the DC fast-charging system. However, an AC home wall box charger takes up to 8 hours to juice it up from 20 to 80%.
Nexon EV sports almost all the features of its ICE version, such as a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, android auto, and apple carplay connectivity, connected car technology, a semi-digital instrument cluster with 7-inch TFT display, auto climate control, auto headlamps, LED DRLs, electric sunroof, height-adjustable driver seat and many more.

Currently, In the electric sub-4m SUV segment, there is no direct rival of Tata Nexon EV. However, the Hyundai Kona Electric and MG ZS EV SUVs are also available in India, but they are very expensive in comparison to the Tata's offering. Hence, we cannot consider them its competitor. The Hyundai Kona Electric costsRs 23.75 lakh to Rs 23.94 lakh, while the MG ZS EV retails at Rs 20.88 lakh to Rs 23.58 lakh.
Soon Mahindra will also launch the electrified version of Mahindra XUV300.
Achieving 1000 units milestone in such a short time by Nexon EV shows that customers are now adopting electric vehicles which is a very good sign and in the interest of the environment. We hope that this figure will increase more rapidly in the coming time. But there is still a need for more and more EVs to be launched in the budget section which must also offer a better drive range.
