Tata Motors Sold 66,307 Units In December 2021; Surpasses Hyundai In PV Sales

Highlights: – 

  • Tata Motors' domestic sales stood at 66,307 units in December 2021 compared to 53,430 units in the same month last year.
  • It sold 35,299 passenger vehicles in December 2021 as opposed to 23,545 units in December 2020.
  • The carmaker surpassed Hyundai Motors by 2,987 units to take the second spot on last month's PV sales chart.
  • Tata registered around 50 percent Year-on-Year (YoY) growth last month.
  • Its PV sales in Q3 of FY22 stood at 99,002 units, a hike of 44 percent against Q3 FY21.

Tata Motors' Year-on-Year (YoY) sales figures have been on the rise for the last few years thanks to the various new launches like Nexon, Tiago, Harrier, Altroz, Safari, Punch, etc. And recoding another milestone in the last month of CY 2021, the carmaker overtook Hyundai Motors to take its sweet second spot in the Passenger Vehicles (PV) space.

The homegrown carmaker registered a sale of 35,299 units in the PV segment last month against 23,545 units in December 2020, a hike of 50 percent while its month-on-month figures grew by around 18 percent (+5519 units). In comparison, Hyundai sold 32,312 vehicles in December 2021 as opposed to 47,400 units in December 2020, witnessing a year-on-year decline of about 32 percent while the monthly sales declined by over 12 percent (-4689 units).

Tata has also recorded a decade-high quarterly sale of 99,002 units in Q3 FY22, a growth of 44 percent against the Q3 FY21. While the model-wise sales figures are yet to be revealed, Shailesh Chandra (President of PV business unit) has stated that the overwhelming market response to Tata Punch micro-SUV helped in boosting the company’s sales in the last months of 2021. We believe with more exciting models in the pipeline, Tata's popularity will grow further.
