Tata Altroz Automatic Teased; Launch Soon

Highlights: –

  • Likely to get a dual-clutch gearbox (DCT). If this happens, it will be a first for Tata.
  • Expect the DCT unit to be offered with the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol only.
  • Expected to command a premium of around Rs 1 – 1.50 lakh over the manual trims.

Tata Motors has teased the highly anticipated Altroz Automatic. It is expected to get a dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT). With this, it will become the first Tata and second car in its category to get a DCT unit. Currently, the Hyundai i20 turbo comes with such gearbox system.

Tata Altroz Automatic – Expectations

  • While it is not official, we believe that Tata will offer the two-pedal convenience with Altroz’s 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that is good for 110PS of maximum power and 140Nm of peak torque. Tata also offers the premium hatchback with 86PS 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and 90PS 1.5-litre diesel engine.
  • As of now, all these power mills only come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. On the other hand, all Tata Altroz rivals such as Hyundai i20, Maruti Baleno, VW Polo, and Honda Jazz offer both manual and automatic transmission choices. Here’s a look at the model-wise gearbox options of the key competitors of Altroz:-

  • Going by the recent updates on the Nexon, Harrier, and Safari, we expect Tata to offer new features like ventilated front seats, an auto-dimming IRVM, and an air purifier with the Altroz Automatic. Besides, it could also get a new paint scheme.
  • With all these changes, expect the Tata Altroz Automatic to command a significant premium over its ongoing turbo-petrol variants, which are priced from Rs 8.1 lakh to Rs 9.4 lakh (ex-showroom).
