Secure Your CNG Automatics: Tata Tiago and Tigor CNG AMT Bookings Open!

Tata Motors continues to lead the CNG revolution in the country, presenting the first for the CNG car market – automatic transmission. After a teaser, bookings for the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG AMT variants have been commenced online and at authorised dealerships for an initial amount of Rs 21,000.

Tata has announced that the convenience of AMT will be offered with the XT and XZ+ variants of the Tiago CNG, the XZ trim of Tiago NRG, and the XZ and XZ+ variants of Tigor CNG.

Tata Tiago, Tigor CNG AMT Powertrain

The AMT variants of Tata Tiago and Tigor CNG will continue to be equipped with the existing 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that benefits from factory-fitted twin CNG cylinder technology that ensures you get ample boot space for long-distance travel. This engine produces 86PS and 113Nm in petrol mode and 73.5PS and 95Nm when fed with CNG. Earlier, this CNG mill was only available with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

What’s more interesting about this powertrain is that it can start directly in CNG mode and includes a safety feature that turns off the ignition when the fuel lid is opened.

Expected Price and Rivals

Currently, the Tata Tiago CNG lineup ranges from Rs 6.55 – 8.20 lakh, while the Tigor CNG costs between Rs 7.80 lakh and Rs 8.95 lakh (ex-showroom). We expect the upcoming AMT variants could command a premium of about Rs 55,000 over their corresponding CNG-manual variants.

Speaking of the competition, the Tiago CNG faces challenges from the CNG versions of the Maruti Suzuki Celerio, WagonR and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, while the Tigor CNG goes up against the likes of the Maruti Dzire CNG and Hyundai Aura CNG.
