Nissan Magnite 4-Star Crash Test Details Revealed By ASEAN NCAP

Nissan Magnite, the latest entrant in the sub-compact SUV segment, was crash-tested by the ASEAN NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) in December 2020 and managed to score a 4-star safety rating out of five. Now, ASEAN NCAP has officially released its detailed test report and crash test video.

For the people not in know, the crash test was conducted on the Indonesian-spec Nissan Magnite, which is manufactured in India only.

According to the reports, the Nissan Magnite gets 39.02 points for adult passenger's safety, 16.31 points for child occupants, and 15.28 points for the safety assist category. In total, it obtains 70.6 points, retrieving a 4-star overall safety rating in both Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and Child Occupant Protection (COP). It is important to note that the crash-tested Magnite was having dual airbags, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), rear parking sensors, front seatbelt reminder, and ISOFIX child seat mounts. These features also come standard with the India-spec model, except for the ESC and ISOFIX anchorages which only come with the turbocharged/top-spec variants. Apart from this, the Indian-spec Magnite also gets a 360-degree camera, vehicle stability control, traction control, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and hill start assist with turbo spec trims.

Talking about adult protection, the frontal offset crash test conferred 'good' protection to the head, upper legs, and feet of the driver & front passenger. However, the driver's chest was rated ‘weak’, while the front passenger's cheat and lower legs received 'adequate' protection. The overall structure of the car remained stable in the frontal offset test. During the side impact test, the driver's chest showed 'adequate' safety. 

In the case of child occupant protection (COP), the 3-year-old child dummy in the forward-facing child seat witnessed ‘good' protection, whereas the 18-month-old child dummy in the rearward facing seat observed less protection in the frontal impact test.

Nissan Magnite was launched on 2nd December 2020 in the Indian market and is getting an unbelievable response from buyers. It is available in four trim (four variants: XE, XL, XV, XV Premium), and two petrol engine (1.0L NA & 1.0L turbo) choices. Currently, the Magnite has priced between Rs 5.49 lakh to Rs 9.59 lakh (ex-showroom) and commanding a huge waiting period of up to 8 months, depending upon the variant. This tremendous interest of Indian buyers in Magnite can be attributed to the SUV's aggressive pricing, which makes it India's most affordable sub-4m SUV. 

The Nissan Magnite rivals the likes of Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Toyota Urban Cruiser, and Honda WR-V. Among all, the Mahindra XUV300 and Tata Nexon are considered the safest sub-compact SUV with a 5-star rating, followed by Maruti Vitara Brezza with a 4-star grade.
