Next-Gen Maruti Suzuki Alto Spied For The First Time

Maruti Suzuki is working on a host of new models, including the next-generation iteration of Celerio and Baleno. While the launch of Celerio has been delayed due to the shortage of semiconductors, Alto seems ready to join the launch pipeline soon. Recently, a heavily camouflaged prototype model has been spied inside Maruti’s facility and it is supposed to be of the next-generation Maruti Suzuki Alto as its silhouette seems identical to the current Alto. Its launch is expected sometime next year.

The new-gen Alto is expected to be based on the Heartect-K platform and could offer better cabin space. And since it's a generational update, expect it to come with a completely new design and a host of new features. As of now, the entry-level model comes equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, manual AC, keyless entry, and front power windows.

Underneath the bonnet, the new Alto is likely to retain the ongoing 0.8-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that kicks out 48PS and 69Nm while mated to a 5-speed manual or an AMT transmission. It will continue to come with an optional factory-fitted CNG kit as well. In addition, a more powerful 1.0-litre petrol engine could also be offered.

Expect the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto to command a premium over the ongoing model that currently retails from Rs 3.15 lakh to Rs 4.82 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will rekindle its competition with the Renault Kwid and Datsun redi-GO.

In other updates, Maruti Suzuki is also gearing up to bring in the CNG versions of Swift and Dzire later this year, followed by the much-awaited Jimny off-roader in 2022.
