Upcoming WagonR Based Toyota Hyryder EV Spied Once Again

Toyota has started testing its upcoming electric hatchback, and we had brought to you the first exclusive spy images of the model last week. And now, more spy images of the EV have been surfaced online, uncovering more details. For those who aren't aware, the upcoming Toyota EV is based on Maruti WagonR, and it is likely to be named Toyota Hyryder (as the brand has recently filed a trademark for this name)

Design-wise, the upcoming Toyota Hyryder looks quite similar to the WagonR hatchback save for some significant cosmetic tweaks. It features a split headlamp setup upfront with an EV-specific front grille and closed air-intake in black shade accommodating LED fog lamps.

While the side profile of the car remains identical to the WagonR, it gets Ignis-like blacked-out alloy wheels. The rear, on the other hand, features smoky finished vertically stacked tail lamps, and a redesigned bumper with vertical reflectors on each side & a horizontal black applique. One can notice that it misses out on an exhaust tailpipe, which clearly reflects that it's a battery-powered model.

Talking about the interior, it also resembles the WagonR. However, it does feature automatic climate control, which is missing in Maruti's tallboy hatchback. The MID in its instrument cluster will remind you of the previous-gen WagonR.

While the recently seen model had no infotainment, previous spy shots confirmed that it would also get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display as its ICE counterpart donor vehicle.

While the technical details of the upcoming Toyota EV are yet to be revealed, it could offer a range of around 200km in a single charge. As for pricing, it could be retailed around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) for private buyers.

We believe Toyota will launch the EV by the end of 2021. Considering the high prices associated with electric vehicles and low sales volume, this EV may not see the light of day from Maruti Suzuki's banner anytime soon. However, the Indo-Japanese maker could bring its conventional petrol version sometime around early next year.
