New-Gen Maruti Suzuki Alto Spied Testing Again

Maruti Suzuki has a plethora of new offerings in its lineup, including the next-gen Alto, which was recently spied again during testing. It is slated to launch sometime in 2022.

In the latest spy video, we can see the overall silhouette of the new Alto, and it looks significantly bigger & taller than the ongoing model. This could be due to the new Heartect platform on which it is expected to be based. It sports a sculpted bonnet and a large air dam at the front with a honeycomb mesh pattern similar to the current model. However, it gets new sweptback headlamps and refreshed bumper.

At the rear, we can spot the upright tailgate, new bumper, and square-shaped taillights. We believe the spied model could be a lower-spec variant as it was riding on steel wheels and missed out on the wheel covers.

The latest video doesn't reveal much of the interior, but we can sense the reworked dashboard layout, and the new central aircon vents are apparently visible. Maruti is likely to add some more equipment to its existing feature list, which majorly comprises a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, front power windows, manual AC, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors. The new model is expected to receive rear power windows, a revised instrument cluster, and day/night IRVM.

2022 New Maruti Alto Launch Date

Underneath the hood, the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto is likely to retain the ongoing 0.8-litre petrol engine (48PS/69Nm), mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The automaker also offers a factory-fitted CNG kit (41PS/60Nm) with the same motor. It could also receive Celerio's new 1.0-litre DualJet Dual-VVT K10C petrol engine with an optional AMT (Automated Manual Transmission).

The current model of the Maruti Suzuki Alto ranges between Rs 3.5 lakh and Rs 4.82 lakh (ex-showroom). Expect its new iteration to command a significant premium. When launched, it will revive its competition with the Renault Kwid and Datsun redi-GO.
