Yesterday, MINI began pre-launch bookings for its first electric offering in India, the Cooper SE, for a token amount of Rs 1 lakh. Now, the automaker has announced that all the 30 units allotted for our market have sold out in a single day! The price announcement of the electric hatchback is likely to take place in the next month. Being a CBU unit, we reckon it to bear a price tag of around Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom). It has no direct rivals in the Indian market.
The all-electric MINI 3-door Cooper SE combines the fabulous go-kart feel with instantaneous torque and zero emissions. With a maximum output of 184PS and 270Nm, the electric Mini can sprint from 0-100kmph in just 7.3 seconds. It is powered by a 32.6kWh battery pack that is claimed to deliver a driving range of up to 270km. It can be charged from 0 to 80 percent in 2.5 hours using an 11kW charger, whereas the 50kW DC fast charger will take 35 minutes for the same. Charging from a conventional power socket will take approximately half a day.
MINI has kept the electric Cooper’s design largely similar to its regular ICE counterpart, albeit with a few distinctive elements like a closed-off front grille, bright yellow highlights on the exterior (optional), and new 17-inch alloy wheels. Inside, it features the familiar circular design elements with notable features like a sleek 5.5-inch digital driver's display, an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connected car technology, Apple Carplay, heads-up display, a Harman Kardon audio system, premium upholstery, and a host of tactile controls on the console.
The MINI Cooper SE will be available in four colors – White Silver, Midnight Black, Moonwalk Grey, and British Racing Green.
