MG ZS EV To Get A Smaller Capacity Battery Pack Soon

Recently, a document from the Delhi Transport Department has surfaced online that suggests Morris Garages is likely to introduce the updated ZS EV with a smaller 40 kWh battery pack. This will help the brand to bring down its prices to some extent. However, it is not clear whether MG will use this battery pack as a replacement for the existing 44.5 kWh unit or offer it as an alternative.

2021 MG ZS EV battery capacity

The document states that the EV will remain dimensionally unchanged and will continue to produce 143PS of peak performance at 3,500rpm. However, the smaller battery pack could impact its range. As of now, the MG ZS EV offers a claimed range of 419km on a full charge. A 50kW DC fast charger can juice up the battery from 0 to 80 percent in less than 50 minutes.

While it is not officially confirmed, the brand could also give the SUV subtle cosmetical changes like the upcoming MG Astor, which is essentially a petrol-powered version of the ZS SUV, albeit in a facelifted avatar. That said, the SUV could also receive a redesigned front grille, sharper LED projector headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, updated tail lamp cluster, and refreshed bumpers at both ends. Inside, it is likely to get a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and MG's latest personal AI assistant.

MG ZS EV drive range and specifications

As of now, the price of MG ZS EV starts at Rs 20.99 lakh for the base-spec Excite variant and goes up to Rs 24.58 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom) for the Exclusive variant. The updated ZS EV with the lower capacity battery pack could cost less than Rs 20 lakh, which will make it more competitive against the Tata Nexon EV.

In other updates, Tata Motors is also gearing up to introduce a more powerful version of the Nexon EV. As per the recent reports, the upgraded Nexon EV will generate 136PS of maximum power. That's 7PS more than its current output.
