MG Likely To Unveil New Hector On December 20; Variant Details Reveale

MG Motor is all set to launch the new Hector in the coming days. While it is not official, reports suggest it could be unveiled on December 20, 2022.

Compared to its ongoing model, the new MG Hector has undergone subtle design changes. Revealed by tons of teasers and recent spy shots, the new MG Hector sports a new front-end facia featuring an all-new chrome studded grille, redesigned headlamps and bumper. While the side profile of the car remains largely unchanged, the rear end has received a new HECTOR badging at the tailgate and a slightly revamped rear bumper. Additionally, the tailgate is equipped with an LED light bar, connecting either sides of the tail lamps.

The interior of the upgraded mid-size SUV will also feature an all-new dashboard layout, with a 14-inch portrait-styled touchscreen infotainment system taking the centre stage. It is also likely to receive a host of new features, such as wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, more advanced connected car tech, and radar-based Advanced Driver Assistant features such as adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, high beam assist, lane-keeping assist, forward collision mitigation, rear cross-traffic alert and blind-spot monitoring.

Its 6-seater iteration, the MG Hector Plus, will also receive similar kinds of changes.

Currently, the MG Hector is available in four variants (Style, Shine, Smart and Sharp); however, a recently leaked type approval document suggest that its upgraded model may be limited to the Sharp trim.

No mechanical changes are expected

Underneath the hood, the 2022 MG Hector will get the same 1.5-litre turbo-petrol (143PS/250Nm) and 2-litre diesel engine (170PS/350Nm) as the ongoing model, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard. An 8-speed CVT automatic is also on the cards for the petrol mill.

With all the changes mentioned above, expect the prices of the new MG Hector to start from around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom), pitting it against the Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier, and Mahindra XUV700.
