MG Hector SUV Production Crosses 50,000 Unit Milestone

MG Motors started its India journey with Hector mid-sized SUV in June 2019. And within the two years, the brand has rolled out the 50,000th unit of Hector from its Halol (Gujrat) facility, and interestingly, it was manufactured by an all-women crew.

The carmaker has also stated that women comprise 33% of its total workforce at the Halol plant. The brand further aims to increase this number to 50% in the near future. The initiative has created a new benchmark while celebrating ‘Diversity’ – one of the core pillars of the automaker – as women led the end-to-end production. In this first-of-its-kind development, women-only teams were involved in panel-pressing of sheet metal and welding to painting jobs as well as carrying out post-production test runs.

Commenting on the development, Rajeev Chaba, President, and Managing Director, MG Motor India, said: –

MG has always been a progressive brand with diversity, community, innovation, and experiences as our cornerstones. We believe that it is something that has broadened our perspective as a brand and unlocked efficiencies in every aspect of our business operations. The rollout of our 50,000th Hector by an all-women crew comes as an honour to their contributions and hard work. It also demonstrates that glass ceilings no longer exist even in an erstwhile male-dominated industry such as automobile manufacturing. We believe that it will inspire more women to join the automotive industry in India and abroad.

About MG Hector

MG Hector is a 5-seater mid-sized SUV that takes on the likes of Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV500, Jeep Compass, and the higher variants of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Recently, the brand has given it a facelift update, followed by the introduction of an optional CVT automatic gearbox with its petrol model. One can have this British legacy SUV with either a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol (143PS/250Nm) or a 2.0-litre diesel engine (170PS/ 350Nm). The petrol motor also gets the option of a 48V mild-hybrid system, with only a 6-speed manual transmission (MT). Further, the non-hybrid petrol variants also get the choice of a 6-speed DCT and an 8-speed CVT automatic gearbox. On the other hand, the diesel engine only comes with a 6-speed MT.

MG Hector is available in four variants (Style, Super, Smart, and Sharp), which are priced between Rs 12.89 lakh to Rs 18.42 lakh (ex-showroom).
