Mercedes-Benz GLB Discountinued In India; Here’s Why

Mercedes-Benz has officially dropped the GLB SUV in India as all allocations for the Indian market have been sold out. It was imported into the country as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) from the brand’s Mexico facility. The German manufacturer is expected to bring the facelifted GLB to India by 2026.

Launched in December 2022, the GLB was Mercedes’ entry-level 7-seater SUV, which was positioned against the likes of the Land Rover Discovery Sport. It was available in three variants: GLB 200 Progressive, 220d 4Matic and 220d AMG Line 4Matic, with both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol unit was a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged mill (165PS/250Nm) with cylinder deactivation technology. It was mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive system. On the other hand, the diesel motor was a 190PS/400Nm 2-litre unit, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Depending on the variant, it was offered with both front wheel drive and all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.

Before being axed, the GLB was priced between Rs 63.80 lakh and Rs 71.80 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India).

Regarding features, it was loaded with two 10.25-inch displays (one instrument cluster and the other for the infotainment), power-adjustable front seats with memory function, a wireless phone charger, dual-zone auto AC, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, a slide & recline function for rear seats, multiple airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), active brake assist and parking assist.

Readers must note that its electric derivative, the Mercedes-Benz EQB, continues to be on sale. In fact, it also received a mid-life facelift update last year, which comprised minor design changes and the introduction of a new 5-seater version. Currently, it is priced between Rs 72.20 – 78.90 lakh (ex-showroom).
