2021 Maruti Swift Facelift – What's New?

Being a facelift model, the 2021 Swift gets minor cosmetic updates both inside and outside. Changes on the exterior are limited to the redesigned cross mesh grille with a bold chrome accent. The headlamps and bumper design have remained unchanged. The side and rear end of the updated hatch also remain the same.

Besides the new front grille, Maruti Suzuki has offered three dual-tone exterior color choices with top-spec trim. The options include a Pearl Arctic White with a Black roof, a Solid Fire Red with Black roof, and a Metallic Midnight Blue with a White roof.

New Maruti Swift features

On the inside, the cabin looks similar to the pre-facelift model. However, it now comes with a revised fabrics upholstery and some added set of features to increase the overall driving experience. For starters, the Swift VXI (second from the base trim) now gets a new audio system that features integrated electrostatics touch buttons for volume and track change and comes with DSP/ANT, radio, media, and Bluetooth, USB, & AUX connectivity support. Maruti has also offered this music system with Dzire's VXi trim some days ago. On the other hand, the top-of-the-line variant now gets colored MID (multi-information display), cruise control, and auto-folding ORVMs. Besides this, it will continue to get the existing set of features such as auto LED headlamps with LED daytime running lamps, automatic climate control, a flat-bottom multi-function steering wheel, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors with a camera, etc.

The most significant change to the 2021 Swift lies under its bonnet. The brand has offered the facelifted Swift with a new 1.2-liter DualJet petrol engine, replacing the older 1.2-liter K12 petrol unit. This new engine has higher thermal efficiency that helps it deliver enhanced performance and greater fuel economy.

Available with a 5-speed manual and an AMT (automated manual transmission) gearbox options, the motor develops 90PS and 113Nm of peak output, which is 7PS more than the older engine. It also gets an idle start/stop function that further assists to increase fuel efficiency. As per the brand, the new Maruti Swift will deliver an ARAI claimed mileage of 23.20kmpl with the manual version and 23.76kmpl with the automatic version, which is approximately 2.5 kmpl more than the preceding model.

Author's Take

Maruti Suzuki Swift is one of the best-selling hatchbacks in the country. This is the first time when the third-generation Swift has been given a major update since its launch in 2018. Visually, it may not look much different from the pre-facelift model, but it has now become the only car in its segment to offer the cruise control feature.
