Maruti Suzuki Ertiga And XL6 Reportedly To Get New Features

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) had launched the XL6 in August 2019, which is a 6-seater premium version of the Ertiga MPV, sold through Nexa dealerships. Both MPVs are doing quite well for the brand in terms of sales. However, with the rise of the 7-seater midsize SUV segment, the competition is getting really tougher day by day. Recently, we have seen the introduction of MG Hector 7-seater and Tata Safari in the segment. Soon Creta-based Hyundai Alcazar and Mahindra's XUV900 will also mark their presence in the segment. Hence, to strengthen its position in the market, Maruti Suzuki is going to update Ertiga and XL6 for the Indian market.

If reports are to be believed, both these MPVs are likely to get some new features like more airbags, wireless smartphone charger, bigger wheels and much more. No mechanical changes are expected this time. However, we have already seen Ertiga testing the new BS6-compliant diesel engine. It's not confirmed whether this new CI engine will be accompanying the update or not. As of now, both these MPVs are available with a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 105PS and 138Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque converter automatic. The same engine also does duty in Maruti Ciaz, S-Cross and Vitara Brezza.

The launch timeline for the updated Maruti Ertiga and XL6 is not known at the moment. They are likely to be introduced in the upcoming months. With this, the prices of both MPVs are expected to be increased by a decent margin. Currently, the 7-seater Maruti Ertiga is priced between Rs 7.69 lakh and Rs 10.47 lakh (ex-showroom), while the 6-seater XL6 retails from Rs 9.84 lakh and Rs 11.61 lakh (ex-showroom).
