Maruti Grand Vitara Bharat NCAP Crash Test Images Leaked

The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara has reportedly been crash-tested by the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP), India’s own car safety assessment initiative. While Maruti Suzuki and BNCAP are yet to make an announcement regarding the same, the SUV is reported to have received a 4-star safety rating in the crash tests. We expect the official results to be released soon.

The Grand Vitara is the first Maruti car crash-tested by the Bharat NCAP. Until now, cars & SUVs from Tata Motors have been crash-tested by the testing agency.

Note: The Toyota Hyryder is also expected to receive the same crash test safety ratings as the Grand Vitara due to their shared platform and similar safety features.

Earlier, it was reported that Maruti Suzuki would send three models for Bharat NCAP testing in its initial lot. The remaining two could be the Brezza and Jimny. The Brezza also shares its platform with the Grand Vitara, so it is also expected to perform well in the crash tests.

For those unaware, the passenger’s safety in the Maruti Grand Vitara is ensured by up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, hill hold & descent control, ISOFIX anchors, 3-point seat belt for all occupants with a reminder, tyre pressure monitoring system, rear parking sensors with 360-degree camera, high-speed warning and much more.

Grand Vitara safety rating

Propulsion duties on the SUV are taken care of by either a 103PS 1.5-litre DualJet DualVVT petrol engine with a mild-hybrid system or a 116PS Toyota-sourced 1.5-litre strong-hybrid petrol engine. The former can also be paired with a factory-fitted CNG kit.

Currently, Maruti Suzuki Nexa retails the Grand Vitara from Rs 10.99 lakh to Rs 20.90 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it against the Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate and its rebadged version, the Toyota Hyryder. The Hyryder is also expected to be rated by the same safety ratings as the Grand Vitara.
