Maruti Brezza Facelift To Get A New 6-Speed Gearbox

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza has been spied once again, revealing new details about the upcoming SUV. As per the leaks, the compact SUV is expected to receive a new 6-speed manual transmission. It is expected to be paired with the brand’s 1-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which is currently offered with the Maruti Suzuki Fronx.

Currently, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza is the only offering in the segment that comes with a 1.5-litre engine. As a result, it attracts 40% GST against 18% GST levied on other offerings in its class. Also, the Brezza is the only SUV in the sub-4m space that does not get a turbo-petrol engine. That said, with the introduction of this new engine, the prices of the Brezza could be reduced significantly, making it a more competitive offering. Besides, the existing 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine is likely to continue with the facelift update.

Aside from the new engine and transmission, the facelifted Brezza is also expected to get a new underbody CNG tank as Victoris, thus providing a more usable space without compromising on the efficiency front.

Speaking of the design changes, Maruti Brezza will receive minor styling changes in the form of a new front grille, sleeker lighting setup, freshly designed blacked-out alloy wheels, and reprofiled bumpers at both ends.

Inside, it is expected to get a slightly revamped dashboard layout to house a new floating 10-inch infotainment system and a fully digital instrument cluster. The cabin theme could also be updated, and the dashboard may get a soft-touch finish for a more premium feel.

Going by the rising competition in the segment, the refreshed SUV is also expected to receive a host of new features, including a powered driver seat with ventilation function for both driver and co-driver, ambient lighting and front parking sensors. We would love it if Maruti also equips the car with a panoramic sunroof and atleast level-1 ADAS suite.

Expected Launch and Rivals

While Maruti Suzuki is yet to share its launch timeline, we expect it to hit the roads in the second half of this year, probably in July. Once launched, it will continue to rival the likes of the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger.
