Maruti Baleno and Ertiga Now Get Standard Six Airbags

For the past few months, Maruti Suzuki has been updating the safety quotient of its cars. In line with this, India’s largest passenger carmaker has now updated the Baleno and Ertiga with six airbags as standard fitment across their variant lineup.

Earlier, the six airbags were limited to Baleno’s higher variants only, while the Ertiga used to get only four airbags in upper trims.

For those unaware, the Baleno was recently crash tested by Bharat NCAP. It secured a 4-star safety rating for both its dual airbag and six airbag variants; however, there was a slight difference in their overall scores. Now, the rating of the 6 airbag variant will be applicable across the lineup.

On the other hand, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is yet to be crash tested by the Bharat NCAP. However, earlier, it scored a 1-star rating by Global NCAP under stricter protocols for the South African market.

Prices Increased

This update results in a 0.5% increase in the prices of the Baleno and a 1.4% hike for the Ertiga. Their updated price lists are yet to be revealed.

Powertrain Options

Powering the Maruti Suzuki Baleno is a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder, DualJet DualVVT petrol engine (90PS/113Nm), paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. In contrast, the 7-seater Ertiga comes with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (130PS/139Nm), which can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Both models also come with a factory-fitted CNG kit option with manual variants.
