Mahindra Vision T Teased; Thar-based EV?

Mahindra has dropped a new teaser of its upcoming concept vehicle, the Vision T, ahead of its official debut on August 15 in Mumbai. In addition, the company will also unveil its all-new Freedom NU platform and future roadmap at the same event. This new platform is expected to serve as the foundation for a new generation of Mahindra vehicles.

While details are scarce at the moment, the bonnet shown in the new teaser suggests that it could be the electric version of the new-gen Bolero or the Thar Electric. For those unaware, the Thar electric — called the Thar.e — was first showcased in 2023 in South Africa. The teaser also highlights muscular wheel arches and off-road specific knobby tyres.

The upcoming Mahindra Vision T concept is expected to be underpinned by the new Freedom NU modular platform, which is reported to be manufactured at the brand’s Chakan-based new facility. This is likely to be a monocoque architecture that will be compatible with various body styles and powertrains. Designed to accommodate petrol, diesel, hybrid and fully electric drivetrains, this new platform is expected to form the base of several future Mahindra models.

In other news, Mahindra has plans to set up a new greenfield manufacturing facility by FY2028 to further expand its electric and hybrid vehicle portfolio.

The event promises to be a pivotal moment in Mahindra’s modern product evolution, and the Indian manufacturer is expected to signal a major step forward in electrification, modularity, and global competitiveness. More details, including technical specifications, timelines, and model rollouts, are expected to be revealed at the event. Stay tuned!
