Mahindra Vision S Spied Testing In Near-Production Avatar

The Mahindra Vision S sub-4m SUV has been spotted testing in near-production avatar ahead of its expected launch next year. The SUV was first showcased as a concept on the 79th Independence Day last year.

Here’s what you need to know about this upcoming compact SUV from Mahindra –

  • While the test mule was heavily camouflaged, its rugged appeal was still evident through its boxy, upright stance.
  • Design elements such as a flat nose with vertical slats, round headlamps, squared windows and chunky wheel arches hints as strong go anywhere capabilities rather than being just another urban SUV.
  • It also retains flush-fitting door handles and tailgate mounted spare wheel from the concept version.
  • The overall proportions hint at a short front and rear overhang, which could further enhance its approach and departure angles.

  • While the interior is yet to be seen, it is likely to retain a dual-screen setup on the dashboard, with a 3-spoke steering wheel, triangular AC vents with silver surrounds, and a gloss black centre console from the concept version.
  • Under the skin, the Vision S is expected to be based on the carmaker’s NU IQ platform and likely to be offered with both petrol and diesel engine options.
  • While it is not official, we expect Mahindra to offer it with XUV 3XO’s 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine options, with both manual and automatic gearbox choices and 4×4 capabilities. Thus, pitting it against the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and the upcoming Renault Bridger.

Once launched, the Vision S could carve out a niche for itself as a compact lifestyle off-roader in the sub-4m space, appealing to buyers who want a rugged SUV with proper go-anywhere credentials. More details are likely to emerge as testing continues in the coming months.
