Mahindra Scorpio N To Get XUV700-like Radar-Based ADAS Features

Mahindra & Mahindra has recently introduced the Scorpio N in Australia in a 4WD diesel-automatic guise. The SUV will be exported to Australia from our shores. Following Australian safety regulations, the carmaker will update the Scorpio N with ADAS safety features.

Here’s the complete story: –

  • According to safety regulations in Australia, all cars must include lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, and rear-cross traffic alert.
  • This requirement applies to all cars certified for sale from April 2023 onwards.
  • Mahindra was able to sidestep this rule by registering the Scorpio N in March, but this exemption is only temporary.
  • All new cars in Australia are bound to have advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) as standard by April 2025, so Mahindra will need to update the Scorpio N with these features before that deadline.
  • The Operations Manager of the Mahindra Automotive International division, Mr Joydeep Moitra, has also confirmed the same.

Will Indian-spec Mahindra Scorpio N also get ADAS?

  • Mahindra hasn’t made any announcement about offering these safety features in India yet. However, we hope that the SUVmaker considers adding them, given that various mass-market cars, such as the MG Astor, Hyundai Verna, Honda City and its sibling, Mahindra XUV700 already come equipped with this technology.
  • The XUV700 gets a level-2 ADAS suite that includes front collision warning, lane-keeping assist, smart pilot assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, high beam assist, and autonomous emergency braking. Expect Scorpio N to also get similar safety features.

Mahindra Scorpio N Deliveries

As of now, Mahindra offers the Scorpio N with safety features like six airbags, ABS with EBD, hill hold assist, electronic stability control, front & rearview camera, parking sensors, and ISOFIX child seat mounts. It received scored a full 5 stars safety rating in the Global NCAP crash tests.

Currently, the Scorpio N is priced from Rs 13.05 lakh to Rs 24.52 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. While it doesn’t have any direct rival, it serves as a body-on-frame alternative to the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Toyota Hyryder, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, and the upcoming Citroen C3 Aircross.
