Mahindra Alturas G4 Axed From The Indian Market

Mahindra has taken its flagship Alturas G4 off its official website. A phased discontinuation process for the Alturas G4 was undertaken by Mahindra. First, it discontinued the 4WD variant, then replaced the 2WD trim with a feature-rich 2WD high variant. Now, it is no longer on sale.

Reason of discontinuation

Launched in November 2018, the Mahindra Alturas G4 was essentially a rebadged version of the SsangYong Rexton. It is no wonder that it was a highly capable, feature-loaded SUV, but it never enjoyed the same level of success as the other SUVs in its class. It won’t be wrong to say that it was overpowered by its counterparts such as Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, MG Gloster and now discontinued Ford Endeavour. That said, it did not enjoy strong sales at any point. There were also issues with part supply to keep the model alive.

Powering the Mahindra Alturas G4 was a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine (181PS/420Nm), paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission sourced from Mercedes-Benz.

Regarding its replacement model, there’s no official confirmation yet. However, the carmaker has lined up multiple models that will be launched in a phased manner by 2027.
