Magenta Group Sets Up Largest Public EV Charging Station In Navi Mumbai

Electric mobility solution provider, Magenta Power-owned ChargeGrid has set up India’s largest public EV charging station in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra. This facility is a part of the company’s plans to establish 4000 charging facilities by 2022. Along with the charging station, the company has also inaugurated its AC charger manufacturing plant at the same location, which will produce around 4000 AC chargers every month.

This 24×7 operational charging station has a total of 21 chargers for all types of electric vehicles, out of which 4 are DC fast chargers (ranging from 15 to 50 kW capacity) and 17 are regular AC chargers (3.5 to 7.5 kW). The AC chargers have been developed and manufactured in India only.

The facility also has parking bays for vehicles that require AC slow charging and they can leave their vehicles for overnight charging as well. The brand claims that a vehicle can be charged in around 45 minutes, using a fast DC charger. In addition to the city electricity grid, the charging station also has rooftop solar panels that provide 40kW of power and a backup diesel generator as well.

To access the charging facility, customers will be required to download the ChargeGrid application on their smartphones that comes with features like an online remote monitoring system and automated payment gateway, thereby omitting the need to have an attendant present at the charging facility.

Commenting on the launch of the new charging station, Subhash Desai, Minister of Industry and Mining, Government of Maharashtra said-

Maharashtra has been in the forefront of EV development. Under our draft Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2021, we aim to bring at least 1,46,000 new battery-operated electric vehicles (BEVs) on state roads by 2025, estimated to comprise about 10 percent of all new vehicles registrations by that time. We support our very own local start-ups like Magenta to drive the adoption of EV in the state, and in the country, and soon globally.

For those who aren't aware, the Maharashtra Government has recently announced an updated EV policy for the state, offering greater incentives and other advantages for the customers.
