Kia India Recalls Carens MPV To Fix Airbag Software Error

  • Kia has cited a software error in the Airbag Control Unit (ACU) of the Carens.
  • Affected ACU can cause failure in airbag deployment.
  • The recalled vehicles will be inspected and rectified free of cost.
  • Kia will soon start contacting the owners of the affected units.

Kia India has issued a voluntary recall for Carens in light of a possible software glitch in the Airbag Control Module of the MPV. The exact number of affected vehicles is unknown at the moment.

For those who aren’t aware, the Airbag Control Module (also known as Airbag Control Unit (ACU)) detects and evaluates the severity of an accident and then activates the suitable restraint systems. It also stores the crash data storage, such as engine speed, throttle position, speed change on impact, and more to later interpret the reason for the mishap. So, if your vehicle’s Airbag Control Model is faulty, your car’s airbags may not deploy in case of a crash, which is certainly a threat to the safety of the passenger inside the car. Hence, we suggest you to visit your nearest authorized service center at the earliest and get your car checked.
