Kia India will announce the prices of the 6/7-seater Carens utility vehicle in February 2022. Its advance bookings are already underway both online and across its pan-India dealerships for a token amount of Rs 25,000. In fact, it has recorded 7,738 bookings on the very first day of the commencement of the reservations, the highest-ever single-day bookings for the Korean carmaker in our country.

The Kia Carens will come in five broad trims, namely Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury, and Luxury Plus. While a 7-seater layout will be standard across the lineup, the top-spec Luxury Plus trim can be had in a 6-seater configuration as well. Besides, there will be eight colors option to choose from, out of which three are exclusive to the Carens only.

Speaking of the features, the MPV will be loaded up to the brim. These include an all-LED lighting system, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto (wireless in mid-spec trims), 64-colour ambient lighting, auto climate control, roof-mounted rear AC vents, ventilated front seats, an in-built air purifier, a single-pane sunroof, auto headlamps & wipers, cruise control, digital driver’s display, and rear retractable tray, and much more. The standard safety kit includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), all-wheel disc brakes, rear parking sensors, hill descent control, and tire pressure monitoring system.

Kia claims the Carens will offer the segment’s largest wheelbase (2780 mm), and its third-row will be quite practical even for adult passengers.

Under the hood, Kia will provide the Carens with the same engine options as the Seltos SUV: 1.5-litre petrol (115PS/144Nm), 1.5-litre diesel (115PS/250Nm), and 1.4-litre turbo-petrol (140PS/242Nm). While all will get a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, the automatic transmission option will be restricted to the diesel (6-speed torque converter) and turbocharged gasoline (7-speed dual-clutch) mills.

We reckon Kia will price the Carens between Rs 12 to 20 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), putting it against the Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV700, MG Hector Plus, Tata Safari, and select variants of Toyota Innova Crysta.
