Kia Carens is slated to go on sale later this month. Bookings for the 6/7-seater cross MPV are already underway at Rs 25,000. It will be available in three engine options: 1.5-litre petrol, 1.4-litre turbo-petrol, and 1.5-litre diesel. Here’s take a look at their detailed specifications and claimed mileage figures: –

Max Power | 115PS | 140PS | 115PS |
Max Torque | 144Nm | 242Nm | 250Nm |
Transmission Options | 6-speed MT | 6-speed MT / 7-speed DCT | 6-speed MT / 6-speed AT |

As revealed above, the Kia Carens’ naturally aspirated 1.5-liter petrol engine, which is only available with 6-speed manual transmission, is the least efficient powertrain among all, while the diesel engine with manual transmission is the most efficient, followed by the diesel-AT and turbo-petrol-DCT combination. Interestingly, the turbo-gasoline and the oil burner offer better mileage than the Kia Seltos, which also get the same engine options.
Talking about the acceleration, the 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol unit with manual transmission is the fastest here that can complete the 0-100kmph sprint in 10 seconds.
For those who aren’t aware, the Kia Carens is available in five variants: Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury, and Luxury Plus. The key features of the car include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, UVO connected car tech, digital driver’s display, an 8-speaker Bose sound system, 64-colour ambient lighting, auto AC, ventilated front seats, roof-mounted rear AC vents, in-built air purifier, electric one-touch tumble second-row seat, an electric sunroof, and 6-airbags. We reckon Kia will price the Carens between Rs 12 lakh to Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom), putting it against the Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, and select variants of Toyota Innova Crysta.
