Kia India has teased its upcoming 7-seater offering and officially announced that it will be called ‘Carens’. The Korean carmaker will unveil the MPV on 16 December 2021. Based on the Seltos mid-size SUV, Kia has called it an RV (recreational vehicle).

The teaser shows the Carens’ body silhouette along with the stylish LED daytime running lamps and a chrome strip running under the grille. It also reveals the sleeker LED taillamps, connected by a light bar spanning the width of the car. It is likely to have different styling in comparison to the Seltos, especially at the front and rear.

Revealed by the earlier spy images, the Carens’ mid-spec trim will feature a fully-digital driver’s display, automatic climate control, a multi-function steering wheel, and a dashboard integrated infotainment system. Expect its higher trims to get a bigger touchscreen, UVO connected car tech, auto headlamps & wipers, in-built air purifier, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, wireless smartphone charging, tire pressure monitoring, 360-degree camera, up to six airbags, electronic stability control, front & rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring and much more.

Similar to the Hyundai Alcazar, the Carens should be offered with six- and seven-seater configurations.

Kia is likely to equip the Carens with Alcazar’s 159PS 2.0-litre petrol and 115PS 1.5-litre diesel engines, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Unlike its Hyundai counterpart which gets well-packed lower trim, the Kia Carens could get a moderately loaded base-spec trim with prices likely to start from around Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom).
