  • Toyota Hyryder to get segment’s first All-Wheel-Drivetrain (AWD) option.
  • AWD could be limited to the mild-hybrid powertrain only.

Toyota is gearing up to unveil the Hyryder mid-size SUV on July 1, 2022. Co-developed with Maruti Suzuki, it will get the brand’s 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine with mild-hybrid and self-charging strong hybrid technology options. Putting an end to speculations, the recent teasers of the SUV confirms that it will also get the segment’s first all-wheel-drivetrain (AWD) option. The SUV will also get disc brakes for all wheels.

Say HY to excitement and adventure

The all-wheel-drivetrain (AWD) option for Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is likely to be restricted to only its mild-hybrid powertrain, whereas the strong-hybrid unit is expected to power the front-wheels-only via e-CVT transmission. On the other hand, the mild-hybrid will use either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, delivering 103PS of max power with a boost of 3PS from its 48V SHVS system.

Aside from the AWD unit, the Toyota Hyryder is anticipated to come loaded up to the brim, with key features including a heads-up display (HUD), 360-degree camera, wireless smartphone charging, auto climate control, connected car tech with remote control functionality, paddle shifters, electric sunroof, all-LED lighting setup, and much more.

Toyota will commence the series production of the Urban Cruise Hyryder from August 2022 at its Bidadi-based manufacturing facility near Bangalore, Karnataka. The Japanese carmaker will also produce the SUV for Maruti Suzuki that is rumored to be called “VITARA” and will be exported to European countries as well. Once launched, it will lock horns with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, and MG Astor.
