Exposed by the spy images, the new i20 Era variant will only come with basic features like halogen headlamps, fender-mounted indicators, 14-inch steel wheels with hub caps, manually adjustable outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs), manual AC, front power windows, power steering wheel, a twin-pod analog instrument cluster with a basic multi-info display (MID), and a front 12V socket. Safety, on the other hand, will be taken care of by dual airbags, ABS with EBD, seat belt reminder, high-speed alert system, and rear parking sensors.
Compared to the current Magna base variant, it will miss out on projector fog lamps, electrically adjustable ORVMs, LED tail lamps, 15-inch wheels with covers, glossy black finishing for the grille, remote keyless entry, infotainment system, steering mounted controls, and even rear power windows.
While it is not official, Hyundai could offer the i20 Era variant with only an 83PS 1.2-liter naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The other variants of the Korean hatchback also get diesel and turbocharged engines along with automatic and iMT transmission options.
Currently, the Hyundai i20 retails between Rs 6.85 lakh to Rs 11.34 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). With the introduction of a new base variant, its prices are likely to come down by around Rs 1 lakh, which will make it price competitive against the Maruti Baleno (Rs 5.98 – 9.30 lakh), Tata Altroz (Rs 5.79 – 9.55 lakh), and Volkswagen Polo (Rs 6.16 – 9.99 lakh).
