Hyundai Alcazar Likely To Get A 2.0-Litre Petrol Engine

Hyundai Alcazar is all-set to debut on 6th April 2021. Even some dealerships have already started accepting its unofficial bookings for a token amount of Rs 50,000. It is essentially a three-row version of the Creta compact SUV that will be available in both 6-and 7-seater layouts. While the technical details of the SUV are yet to be disclosed, rumors are suggesting that it could get a 2.0-liter petrol engine that also powers the Elantra sedan and Tucson mid-sized SUV.

Hyundai Alcazar engine options

In the Elantra, this 2.0-liter petrol unit develops 152PS/192Nm and comes mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. On the other hand, the Elantra diesel features the same 1.5-liter unit (115PS/250Nm) as the second-gen Hyundai Creta. We believe both these motors will make their way to the 7-seater Hyundai Alcazar. It might also get the Creta's 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine that's good enough in generating 140PS and 242Nm and comes paired with a 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch automatic) only.

In other updates, recently some 3D images of the upcoming Alcazar SUV have surfaced online and revealed its design details. While it shares most of the design details with its 5-seater counterpart, it gets enough distinctive elements to give its own identity. These notable design elements include chrome studded grille, redesigned bumpers, large rear overhand with a quarter glass panel, flatter & upright tailgate section with redesigned taillamps, etc.

Inside the cabin, it retains the Creta-like dashboard layout, albeit in an all-new black-&-brown color shade. It is expected to retain most of the features from Creta. However, it could also get some additional features over its younger sibling like front parking sensors, 360-degree camera, AC vents in the third row, and ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) technology.

Expect the prices of Hyundai Alcazar to be revealed sometime in May 2021. We believe it to carry a premium of around Rs 1 lakh over the Hyundai Creta which retails between Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 17.53 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). In the Indian market, it will be positioned against an affordable alternative to the MG Hector Plus, Tata Safari, and Mahindra XUV500.
