Honda City e:HEV Production Begins; Launch In May 2022

  • Production of Honda City e:HEV commenced.
  • Prices are to be announced next month.
  • Delivers a combined output of 126PS/253Nm.
  • Will return a claimed mileage figure of 26.5kmpl.

Honda Car India has begun production of the City e:HEV hybrid sedan at its manufacturing facility in Tapukara, Rajasthan ahead of its launch in early May 2022. Pre-launch bookings for the hybrid sedan are already underway both online and at its pan-India dealerships for Rs 21,000. Once launched, it will become India’s most affordable self-charging strong hybrid car.

Powering the Honda City e:HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) is a 98PS 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, Atkinson Cycle petrol engine, paired with a 109PS/253Nm traction motor, driving the front wheels of the car. It delivers a combined output of 126PS/253Nm, around 5PS/148Nm more than the standard City petrol, and a claimed fuel efficiency of around 26.5kmpl.

Since the City hybrid also gets a separate starter-generator motor that charges its battery pack, it can be driven in pure EV mode as well (at low speeds in city conditions). It switches on the full hybrid mode or engine power at higher speeds whenever needed.

Honda will offer the City e:HEV in a fully-loaded ZX variant that will also come equipped with Honda Sensing Technology that offers advanced driver-assist safety features like adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation braking system, and road departure mitigation, auto high beam, and lane-keeping assist system. It will also get an advanced version of Honda Connect Tech with smartwatch functionality, along with Alexa and OK Google integrations.

The other notable features of the car include an electric parking brake with auto hold function, LED interior room lamps, ambient lighting, an LED lighting system, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a one-touch electric sunroof, tyre pressure monitoring system with deflation warning, up to 6 airbags, vehicle stability control, and much more.

Expect Honda to price the Honda City e:HEV at around Rs 17.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
