Hero XSENS Technology Explained

Entire Hero MotoCorp two-wheeler range now comes equipped with what Hero calls the XSENS technology whether it is the centuries- old Splendor Plus (it features the same 97cc engine from the past three decades) or the latest offering, the updated Xtreme 160R. As per the company claims, the technology helps its two-wheelers achieve a better results on various fronts. So what exactly is this technology? read through to find out!

What is Hero XSENS technology?

To put forward a formal definition, XSENS technology can be defined as a collection of sensors that gather important data in different situations and helps Hero bikes achieve the desired result through the information that these sensors provide.

In short, it will not be wrong to assert that the sensors lie in the heart of the technology and power the next-gen tech from Hero. According to the company claims, the technology helps in improving the performance, durability, safety, reliability and fuel economy. The tech uses a total of nine sensors and has been made standard across the entire Hero range of motorcycles.

What are the sensors involved?

1. Bank Angle Sensor

This sensor is very helpful in case the bike meets an unfortunate accident, it performs the function of cutting off the power supply from the engine when the motorcycle falls.

2. Throttle position sensor

It determines how far the throttle valve is being opened, that in turn helps the bike in responding accordingly to the given throttle input by the rider. Hero claims that it will help in providing instant pick up.

3. Engine Oil Temperature Sensor

Engine temperature plays a critical role in the determination of the type of air-fuel mixture that should be supplied, for instance, in case of colder engine rich air-fuel mixture needs to be supplied, whereas for an engine cruising at constant speeds a leaner mixture would do more than good.

4. Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor (MAP)

Though its technicalities will fancy at least an article long description, to put it in straightforward terms, one can assert that it senses engine load. Thus, at the instances when the bike is facing higher loads, a higher power output is desired, like going uphill, MAP comes into play.

5. i3s Sensor

Developed in-house by Hero Motocorp themselves, this sensor helps in shutting the motorcycle whenever it is in idle condition and the bike restarts upon a single press of clutch. This sensor helps in improving the fuel efficiency considerably.

6. Oxygen Sensor

It is an electronic device that measures the proportional amount of oxygen in a liquid or gas. For automobiles, it is used to measure the amount of oxygen present in the exhaust gases and adjust the fuel/air mixture accordingly.

7. Vehicle speed sensor

As suggested by the name, it is a sensor that is used to read the speed of the wheel rotation. According to the company, it will help the Hero two-wheelers in bettering the pulling power under different loads.

8. Intake Air Temperature Sensor

Another sensor that focuses on the right air-fuel mixture to obtain desired amount of combustion energy. It measures the temperature of the air entering the engine.

This sensor will help in the all-weather easy start of the motorcycle or when the bike is ridden at higher altitudes.

9. Crank position sensor

It monitors the position and rotational speed of the crankshaft, this information is useful for the engine and helps it in deciding critical engine parameters like fuel injection timing.
