Delhi EV Policy Update: No Ban on Bikes or Autos, EV Push Continues

Delhi’s Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Singh has cleared the air around reports of a ban on petrol and CNG bikes and autos. He confirmed that all two-wheelers and autos will continue to operate in Delhi, and there’s no immediate ban. The Delhi government has also extended its current electric vehicle (EV) policy and power subsidies for the next three months, as it prepares to roll out EV Policy 2.0.

This upcoming policy aims for 95% of new vehicle registrations in Delhi to be electric by 2027 — a move to fight air pollution. Power subsidies will continue for domestic users, farmers, lawyers, and 1984 riot victims.

Delhi EV Policy 2.0

There were rumours that from August 15, only e-auto permits would be allowed and no new CNG autos would get permits. Officials denied this, saying such a move isn’t practical. With over 1 lakh autos and bikes already in use, any change will be gradual and carefully planned, not sudden.

The new EV policy is still under review and might include updates to make the shift to electric vehicles smoother. As for private car owners, the exact impact isn’t clear yet — it will depend on the final version of the new policy. If implemented well, this policy could give a boost to the EV market, which is currently slowing down.

Brands like Tata, Mahindra, and Tesla might benefit from this upcoming EV push.
