Current-Gen Mahindra Scorpio Likely To Be Sold Alongside The New Model; Here's Why

Mahindra is set to launch the next-generation iteration of the Scorpio ladder-frame SUV in early 2022. But recently, its current-generation model was spotted testing with slight camouflage on the front and side profiles, suggesting that the automaker may give it a minor facelift update soon. This means that Mahindra may continue selling the current-gen Scorpio (probably in limited variants) with its new-gen model.

Going through the leaked images, the facelifted Mahindra Scorpio will get a newly designed front grille along with refreshed bumper. Since the test mule had steel wheels, and unpainted door handles, and body cladding, it could be the base-spec S3+ variant. While its cabin is yet to be seen, it could get a few new features and revised seat upholstery.

Currently, the Mahindra Scorpio is available in five variants: S3+, S5, S7, S9, and S11. It draws its power from a 2.2-liter diesel engine available in two power tunings: 120PS/280Nm with base-spec S3+ trim and 140PS/319Nm with the other variants. While the lower-tuned motor comes with 5-speed manual gearbox, the higher-tuned engine gets a 6-speed unit.

Mahindra retails the existing version of Scorpio between Rs 12.77 lakh and Rs 17.61 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It has no direct rivals in the Indian market.

In other updates, the next-gen Mahindra Scorpio is expected to be bigger and more premium from its ongoing model. It will get a completely new design both outside and inside along with a plethora of new features such as an electric sunroof, all-LED illumination system, dual-zone climate control, roof-mounted speakers (probably Sony sound system), multiple driving modes, 4WD system (optional), and 360-degree surround-view monitor, etc. It is likely to come in both 6-and 7-seater layouts with the former getting captain seats for middle-row occupants.
