Citroen C3 Production Begins In Brazil; India Launch Expected Soon

  • Citroen beging production of the C3 in Brazil.
  • India launch expected by mid-2022.
  • Will be locally produced in India.

Debuted in September 2021, Citroen has commenced production of the C3 compact SUV at its Porto Real manufacturing plant in Brazil. The SUV is specially designed for various emerging markets, including India. Expect the French automaker to bring it to our shores by mid-2022. Here it will go up against the Tata Punch, Mahindra KUV100 NXT, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger.

To jog your memory, the Citroen C3 is based on the Group PSA’s Common Modular Platform (CMP). It is 3,980mm long with a wheelbase of 2,540mm and a ground clearance of 180mm.

Design-wise, the Citroen C3 has crossover-like styling, essentially inspired by its elder sibling, C5 Aircross. It features Citroen’s traditional chrome line grille up front combined with the V-shaped split lighting setup. There’s also the body cladding all around which increases its ruggedness, while the dual-tone bumpers, floating roofline, and sharper bonnet line provide it a dynamic appearance. The brand will also offer lots of customization options with the car.

The rugged design of the SUV continues inside the cabin as well, with notable elements including a 10-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, quirkily designed air-con vents, and color-coded panel (customizable) running across the width of the dashboard. While the brand is yet to reveal its features details, it should be equipped with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a manual AC system, steering-mounted controls, a digital instrument cluster, multiple airbags, and much more.

While the Citroen kept numb on the car’s specs, it is likely to be equipped with 1.2-litre naturally aspirated and turbocharged petrol engines, paired with manual and automatic transmission options.

Since Citroen will locally produce the C3, we expect its prices to start from around Rs 5 lakh (ex-showroom) in India.
