BYD To Launch Atto 3 EV For Private Buyers In India

BYD, the famous Chinese automaker, is planning to launch the Atto 3 electric SUV in India around the festive season. Currently, BYD has E6 electric MPV in its India lineup that is restricted to commercial use only. However, the BYD Atto 3 will also be available for private use.

The BYD Atto 3 will be based on the brand’s latest e-platform 3.0, which emphasizes four characteristics: intelligence, efficiency, safety, and aesthetics. It will also get BYD’s new ‘Blade Battery’ technology. While the EV maker hasn’t revealed any specific technical data for its Indian-spec version, it is expected to offer a range of around 480 kilometers on a single charge.

Globally, the BYD Atto 3 comes with two battery pack options – 49.93kWh and 60.48kWh, mated to a permanent magnet synchronous motor that produces 204PS of max power and 310Nm of peak torque, which is good enough to hit 0-100kmph mark in just 7.3 seconds.

In terms of features, the SUV will pack a plethora of premium features, including a 12.3-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment system, wireless smartphone charger, powered front seats, heated ORVMs, powered tailgate, rear cross-traffic alert, multiple airbags, and much more.

In the Indian market, it will go up against the Hyundai Kona Electric, MG ZS EV, and the upcoming Mahindra XUV400. Expect it to cost around Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom).

BYD is also planning to showcase its vehicle architecture and battery technology at the upcoming Delhi Auto Expo in 2023. BYD is also striving to grab India’s 10-15 percent market share in passenger EV space by 2030. BYD’s initial goal is to sell around 10,000 EVs in the next two years. It will also explore possibilities for local manufacturing next year.
