BMW i7 M70, 740d M Sport Launched In India

In order to expand its India lineup, BMW has introduced new variants for its flagship sedans, the electric i7 and ICE 7 Series. The all-electric i7 gets a range-topping M70 xDrive variant at Rs 2.5 crore, while the ICE-powered 7 Series receives a new 740d M Sport diesel variant at Rs 1.81 crore (all prices, ex-showroom).

The all-new 740d M Sport offers the convenience of diesel power for those seeking the opulent luxury of the BMW 7 Series sedan. Having said that, it gets a 3-litre, 6-cylinder diesel engine that makes 286PS of max power and 650Nm of peak torque, good enough for pushing the sedan from a standstill to 100 kmph mark in just 6 seconds before attaining an electronically limited top speed of 250 kmph.

Mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, the new BMW 740d M Sport also benefits from a 48V mild-hybrid system that boosts 18PS and 200Nm. Ir claims a fuel efficiency of 16.55 kmpl.

Aside from the new powertrain option, the BMW 740d M Sport looks similar to its petrol version.

Powertrain

The all-new BMW i7 M70 xDrive gets a twin-motor setup that belts out 650PS and 1015Nm, making it the most powerful electric Bimmer. BMW claims that it can make the century sprint in merely 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 250 kmph.

Powering these dual motors is a 101.7kWh lithium battery pack that claims a range of up to 560 kilometres on a single charge.

Design and Features

Being an M Sport model, the BMW i7 M70 flaunts a sportier appearance than the regular i7. It gets M-specific sporty bumpers, side skirts, aero-optimised 21-inch M lightweight alloy wheels, and M-specific side mirrors. It also features M badging on the boot lid, front fenders and kidney grille.

Inside, the i70 M70 gets all the whistles and the bells from the regular i7, such as the BMW curved displays up front for the driver and infotainment system running on BMW’s latest iDrive 8.5 operating system, a Bowers and Wilkins surround sound system, executive lounge seating, rear seat theatre screen, ventilated & managing seats, automatic doors, digital key support, air suspensions, along with M-specific elements like Merino leather trim in black or grey, M carbon fibre interior trim with silver threads, M-specific steering wheel, driver’s footrest, M illuminated door sills, and M-specific infotainment content.

Rivals

In the luxury EV segment, the BMW i7 M70 goes up against the Mercedes-AMG EQS and Audi RS e-tron GT.
