BMW Group India CEO, Rudratej Singh Passes Away

It comes as a piece of shocking and disheartening news that BMW Group India President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rudratej Singh was pronounced dead by the company yesterday i.e. 20 April, 2020. Though the exact reason behind the sudden death has not been announced officially by the group yet, it has been claimed by several media reports as a cardiac arrest.

Rudratej Singh had joined BMW Group India on 1 August 2019 previous to which he was Global President at Royal Enfield. Singh had also worked for Unilever India and for international markets for over a period of 16 years. Under Singh's supervision, BMW Group India has witnessed some of the most important and successful launches like that of BMW 3 Series, new BMW M5 Competition, new BMW X1, and new BMW 530i Sport. The 3 Series also won the Premium Car category at the prestigious ICOTY 2020 awards.

As of now, the group has appointed BMW Group India's Chief Financial Officer Arlindo Teixeira as the interim President. Earlier this month, the group's Sales Director Mihir Dayal had also passed away due to cancer and was with BMW India for over 13 years.

In an official statement, the company said- 

BMW Group India, with profound sorrow, announces the demise of Rudratej Singh (46), President and Chief Executive Officer on 20 April 2020. The cause behind the sudden and unexpected demise is yet to be ascertained. Our prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult period. He will always be remembered as an inspiring and compassionate human being. Rudratej Singh joined BMW Group India on 1 August 2019. His transformational vision and strategic orientation played a crucial role in the navigation of BMW Group India in a challenging business environment. His demise comes at a crucial junction when BMW Group India was in midst of implementing strategic measures for strengthening the dealer network across India.
