All-New TVS Jupiter 125 Launched At Rs 73,400

In light of the festive season, the TVS Motor Company has launched the more powerful 125cc version of the TVS Jupiter scooter. Priced from Rs 73,400 (ex-showroom Delhi), the scooter is available in three variants – front drum with steel wheels, front drum with alloy wheels, and front disc with alloy wheels. Prices of the latter two trims will be announced in the coming days.

The heart of the TVS's first 125cc family-oriented scooter is a new 124.8cc single-cylinder 2-valve engine that churns out 8.3PS at 6000rpm and 10.5Nm at 4500rpm. It also comes with a silent starter and Intelligo idle stop-start system, which will help in fuel saving, especially in stop-&-go traffic.

Styling-wise, the new Jupiter looks like a beefier version of the ongoing Jupiter 110, featuring chrome decorations and noticeable ridges on the front apron and side panels. While its headlamp unit gets LED bulbs, the side indicators and brake light use conventional bulbs. However, the LED DRLs, 12-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, and V-shaped LED elements in the tail lamp cluster give it a striking look.

It also gets a unique 5-liter floorboard-mounted fuel tank that further frees up space in the underseat area of the scooter, resulting in a 33-liters of massive storage capacity, which is good enough to accommodate two ISI-certified adult helmets. The other notable features of the scooter include a side stand engine cut-off function, a USB charging socket, front external fuel cap, and a semi-digital instrument cluster that comprises an analog speedometer and a digital display that shows a clock, odometer reading, real-time fuel consumption, average fuel consumption, and fuel level. However, it misses out on connected technology.

As for underpinnings, the Jupiter 125 uses a telescopic front fork and a segment-first 3-step preload-adjustable gas-charged rear monoshock. Braking duties are taken care of by a 130mm drum/220mm front disc and a 130mm drum at the rear, with CBS as standard. The scooter tips the scales at 109kg and has a fairly accessible seat height of 765mm.

In the Indian market, the TVS Jupiter 125 goes up against the Suzuki Access 125, Honda Activa 125, and the recently launched Yamaha Fascino 125 Hybrid.
