Luxury carmaker Rolls-Royce has finally revealed the coachbuilt Boat Tail in the global market. It is the first of three bespoke models, especially made as per the preferences of each customer. All three bespoke models will share the same body style but will possess individual character and features according to the demands of their clients.
Rolls-Royce Boat Tail: – Why it is special?
Well, it is the first Rolls-Royce car to have been commissioned under the luxury carmaker's new coachbuild program. This allows its prospective buyers to commission new & bespoke body styles while staying within the carmaker’s design language.
Rolls Royce Boat Tail – Bespoke Design Elements
The first of three Boat Tails has been built for a couple that already owns a restored version of the original Boat Tail. It took more than 4 years for Roll-Royce to hand-build this car. Its styling takes inspiration from the J-Class racing yachts as well as the original 1932 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continental Boat Tail. That said, it has a real deck at the rear extracting the shape of a boat's stern.
This wooden deck (finished in a caleidolegno veneer) opens in a sweeping butterfly posture up to exactly 67 degrees to access what Rolls Royce describes as a hosting suite, which also rises to 15 degrees to be bestowed to the owners. It features luxury fine cutlery & silverware by Christofle, two refrigerators (one is specially designed for champagne bottles), towels, and two-foldout picnic tables. Additionally, there's also an umbrella (parasol) tucked underneath the center-line of the deck.
The coachbuilt Bota Tail also gets a sweeping canopy roof with buttress-like structural elements that stretch out to the deck. Yes, it is a soft-top convertible shelter.
As for the interior, there are lots of other unique finishes. It gets custom-made timepieces by BOVET 1822 in the dashboard for this particular model that can also be used as a wristwatch. Even to cater to the customer's pen-collection fondness, Rolls-Royce has provided a special Montblanc pen that will be placed inside a hand-crafted aluminum & leather case situated inside the glovebox. Another fascinating detail of the coachbuilt Boat Tail is that its instrument dials are treated with a decorative technique called guilloche, which is generally used by goldsmiths & watchmakers.
The Rolls-Royce Boat Tail model measure 5.8 meters in length and comes decorated in two nautical shades of blue both inside & outside.
Rolls Royce Boat Tail – Powertrain
Rolls Royce hasn't yet revealed any technical details of the new Boat Tails. However, it is likely to use the same 6.75-liter twin-turbo V12 engine as the Cullinan, Phantom, and Ghost. This V12 twin-turbo unit belts out up to 570PS of max grunt and 900Nm of peak torque.
Talking about Rolls-Royce's Indian portfolio, it comprises as many as five models – Phantom, Wraith, Ghost, Cullinan, and Dawn.
