Ever since its debut in the country, the Tata Sierra has always created a huge buzz among buyers for various reasons. At the time of its arrival, we got our hands on its turbo-petrol trim. But after almost 7 months of its launch, we recently got a chance to drive its 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol-manual variant. While we have already detailed our first drive impressions and compared it with the segment leaders, the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, we’ve now tested its real-world fuel efficiency.
Tata Sierra 1.5 NA Petrol-Manual Real-World Mileage
| Engine | 1.5-litre N.A. Petrol |
| Max Power | 106PS |
| Peak Torque | 145Nm |
| Transmission Options | 6-speed Manual and 7-speed Dual-Clutch Automatic |
| ARAI Claimed Fuel Efficiency | Certification pending |
| Marketed Fuel Efficiency* | 29.9 kmpl |
| Gaadify Tested Fuel Efficiency | 8 kmpl (city), 17 kmpl (highway) |
The 1.5-litre NA petrol engine is based on the Atkinson cycle, which is designed for high fuel efficiency. While the brochure states its ARAI certification is still pending, some media reports indicate its claimed ARAI mileage is around 17.6 kmpl. In real-world conditions, it delivered us nearly the same efficiency on highways, but it dropped to just 8 kmpl in city driving. What’s more surprising is that Tata has programmed its MID in such a way that it cannot display figures below 8 kmpl, which can be misleading in actual conditions.
Other Engine Options
Aside from the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, the Sierra is also available with the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine options. Here’s a look at their specifications: –
