Tata Harrier and Safari To Get Petrol Engines Next Month

For all the Tata fans out there, we have some good news for you. The flagship offerings from Tata Motors, the Harrier and Safari duo, are all set to receive a new petrol engine on December 9, 2025. It will be a 1.5-litre turbocharged gasoline direct-injection engine, which was first revealed at the Auto Expo 2023. The same engine will make its debut in the much-awaited Tata Sierra on November 25, before being introduced in these two SUVs.

As of now, both the Harrier and Safari are only available with a Fiat-sourced 2-litre turbocharged diesel engine (170PS/350Nm), paired with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Now, with the addition of the long-awaited petrol engine, these SUVs will cater to a wider section of the audience. While it’s not official, Tata is expected to offer this new gasoline mill with both manual and DCT automatic gearbox choices.

Besides this, Tata is also likely to retune the Harrier and Safari’s diesel engine in the near future, as the company secured licensing rights for it a few months back.

Sales Expected to Increase In NCR

For buyers in the NCR region, the introduction of a petrol engine will work as a boon because there’s a 10-year registration cap on diesel vehicles. So, the petrol-powered Harrier and Safari will now become a far more practical and appealing option for Delhi-NCR residents who were earlier hesitant to invest in the diesel-only lineup. Moreover, the new petrol engine is likely to provide a smoother, quieter driving experience with lower emissions, all while staying compliant with the region’s stricter environmental norms.

New Features Expected

Aside from introducing the new gasoline mill, Tata could also equip these SUVs with more comfort & convenience amenities. Recently, the brand has also updated the Curvv and Curvv EV with a fresh interior theme and new features.

Expected Price

The petrol-powered variants of the Tata Harrier and Safari will be priced approximately Rs 1 lakh lower than the respective diesel trims. For reference, the Tata Harrier is currently priced between Rs 14 lakh and Rs 25.25 lakh, while the Safari costs from Rs 14.66 lakh to Rs 25.96 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom).
