Hyundai India to Launch 8 Hybrids, New Subcompact EV & Exter Facelift by 2030

Hyundai India is gearing up for a major transformation in the Indian market, unveiling plans to launch eight hybrid models, a new subcompact EV, and a facelifted Exter with next-generation infotainment by the end of the decade. The announcements came during Hyundai’s recent Investors’ Meet, outlining the brand’s roadmap for India till FY2030.

Hybrid Expansion: Eight Models by 2030

Hyundai confirmed that eight out of 26 upcoming models in India will feature hybrid powertrains, accounting for 16% of its future lineup. The move is part of Hyundai’s goal to achieve a 52% eco-friendly product mix by 2030. A key factor driving this push is the revised CAFE 3 (Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency) proposal, effective from April 2027, which incentivises hybrid and electric vehicle sales through a multiplier-based credit system.

Hyundai is developing a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine designed for hybrid compatibility. This engine is expected to debut in the Bayon crossover, likely becoming Hyundai’s first hybrid in India. It will also power future updates of the i20 and Venue, and will extend to the next-gen Creta (launching 2027) and a larger SUV positioned between the Alcazar and Tucson. Hyundai’s flagship Palisade SUV will also arrive in hybrid form, featuring a 334hp, 2.5-litre turbo-petrol hybrid setup.

Exter Facelift: First Mass-Market Car with AAOS

The Exter facelift, expected in early 2027, will introduce Hyundai’s next-generation infotainment system in India. With a 12.9-inch central touchscreen and a 9.9-inch digital instrument cluster, it will be the first mass-market car in India to feature Android Auto Operating System (AAOS), previously limited to premium models. The system will support OTA updates and third-party apps, while the cabin will receive new upholstery and enhanced safety features. The facelift is expected to retain its 83hp 1.2-litre petrol and 69hp CNG engines.

New Subcompact EV: Hyundai Targets Mass Market

In addition to hybrids, Hyundai revealed plans for a new mass-market EV in the Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) range, expected by 2026. This sub-4m compact SUV will compete with models like the Tata Punch EV, Tata Nexon EV, and Mahindra XUV400 EV. It will feature two battery pack options (Standard and Long Range), Level 2 ADAS, advanced infotainment with OTA updates, and a robust body structure for enhanced safety. This EV will be Hyundai’s second mass-market EV in India, after the Creta Electric, helping the brand expand its presence in the small EV segment, which is currently dominated by Tata.

With hybrids, a mass-market EV, and connected mobility updates, Hyundai India is clearly positioning itself to capture the eco-conscious and tech-savvy segment, signalling a major shift toward sustainable mobility in the Indian automotive market.
